To See people transformed
Steve was born in North Dakota and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, graduating from Del Norte High School in 2001 and then leaving to join Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Tyler, Texas, for a six month training program called Discipleship Training School. What was meant as a six-month reprieve to learn more about God turned into a near ten year adventure with YWAM that included four YWAM schools, numerous outreaches, joining staff in Tyler, and leading and teaching in the Discipleship Training School, the School of Evangelism, and the School of the Bible.
A member of the federally recognized Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation) in North Dakota, Steve is mostly Hidatsa and Arikara and 1/16th European. Steve has a Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies from Ecclesia College where he focused on American Indian relationships with and attitudes toward Christianity and approaches to decolonial practices, and a Master's degree from Dartmouth College in Liberal Studies where he studied historical trauma and suicide in American Indian youth while focusing on creative writing as a counterbalance to both. Steve joined staff at New Life City in October of 2017 as the Communications Director and transitioned into the role of Discipleship Pastor in September of 2019..
